Facilities

The Flying Dutchman Funicular - Reach new heights!

An exhilarating ride in the Flying Dutchman funicular lifts you 238 m above the ocean, to where the old lighthouse keeps watch over the seas. What had originally been a diesel bus, named after the “Flying Dutchman” ghost ship, has given way to an environmentally friendly funicular – the only one of its kind in the world. Actually, there are two cars here. Each carries 40 passengers, and runs on the 585 m long track, which – uniquely – curves vertically and horizontally. The ride is an adventure in itself!

Sights, tastes, shopping and thrills!

While the natural beauty of the Table Mountain National Park is pristine and very well conserved here at Cape Point, you’ll discover quite a few rather civilized attractions too…

The Two Oceans Restaurant - Fine wining and dining

From the Two Oceans Restaurant, you’ll take in sweeping views of False Bay, way below. The restaurant, perched high above the crashing waves, has been designed to ensure that all guests can enjoy incredible vistas, along with the offerings of the extensive menu.

Of course, superbly prepared seafood takes pride of place, but this acclaimed meeting place caters for every taste
– from breakfasts and light lunches to pastas and hearty South African grills. And they’ll gladly serve you an al fresco feast by arrangement, so how about champagne and oysters on the rocks, or freshly caught seafood barbecued on the beach?

Not so hungry?

On the run? Or planning a picnic? Pick up a bite at The Two Oceans Food Shop @ Cape Point. Choose from a variety of light meals and snacks - including biltong, droëwors and other authentic South African delights.

The Cape Point Logo Store is the ultimate souvenir shop at the Point. Choose from a wide variety: from t-shirts and mugs to fridge magnets and books. Or buy your own Cape Point Certificate – the official record of your visit to this beautiful place where mystique and myth are shrouded in seashore mist.

The Cape Point Parks Shop is a celebration of the beauty and diversity of the floral kingdom of the Cape, with fragrant body treats from African extracts, seeds to take home, books, and locally made ceramics and cloths.

At the top, next to the funicular station, you’ll be drawn into Lighthouse Five - a mesmerising collection of everything that’s maritime and nautical. Ship’s wheels, brass bells, model sailing ships, globes and Ngwenya glass figurines… just a few of the treasures to be found!

    * Turn right to follow the magnificent coastline to Kommetjie, Sweetwater, Witsand, Misty Cliffs and Scarborough where you then drive inland for a few kilometers
    * Table Mountain National Park’s entrance will be on your right hand side

Coming from Cape Town via the False Bay side:

    * Take the Eastern Boulevard out of town and follow the directions M3 to Claremont, continue on the M3 until your reach the end of the highway and turn left towards Muizenberg, and Fish Hoek.
    * Drive along the coast to historic naval village of Simon's Town. Then continue along the coastal road to the entrance of the Table Mountain National Park on your left handside

A scenic drive through the National Park leads you to the parking area at Cape Point.
